Via Vittorio Veneto (or Via Veneto to
give it its more famous appellation) was opened in 1889 looking
for ‘high class hotels’. That the Imperiale Hotel,
built in the late 1800’s, still stands there is testament
in no small measure to its standing as one of the top echelon
Hotels on Rome’s most famous street.
Via Veneto had, by the late 1950s, become a hot-spot and
regular hangout of many of the big names and stars of that
era, many of whom on a good night could be found occupying
its strip of bars and restaurants. The street was then immortalized
in Fellini's profound and powerful movie ‘La Dolce Vita’
(The Sweet Life) of 1960.
The striking facade of Hotel Imperiale stands out along Via
Veneto, centrally located in Rome and just a few short minutes’
walk to some of the eternal city’s principal and world-famous
attractions such as the Piazza Barberini, Piazza di Spagna
and Fontana di Trevi.
